Welcome to the Akronist, your source for hyper-local, neighborhood news, entertainment and information about greater Akron.

The Akronist isn’t just another website. It’s your website – your home for local videos, photos, podcasts, written articles and blogs produced by citizen journalists using the latest digital media tools.

The Akronist is a constructive place for you to engage and connect with other citizens about issues and topics that are important to you at the neighborhood level. You and your fellow community members create all of the stories and photos found on the Akronist, and you retain ownership of all your original content. Learn about the ways you can contribute to the Akronist.

Do you want to help create a more engaged, informed and connected community? By creating original local content for the Akronist, you can help fill a gap in neighborhood-level media; inform your community; and encourage constructive civic engagement.

People want to see, hear and read more about their neighborhoods, but good information is getting harder to find in communities like Akron, where traditional media outlets are scaling back and media consumption habits continue to change. Even with sophisticated tools like computers, smart phones and mobile devices, Akron lags in locally focused broadcast media. This presents an opportunity for citizen journalism to make a real impact in the greater Akron area.

So what do you want to see, hear or read about your neighborhood? What local issues and topics are important to you? We want to hear from you. Upload a video or podcast. Post your photos. Share a written article. Comment on a story. Write a blog. Start a conversation. Engage. Connect. Participate. Have fun.

A free blog is available when you join the social network. Blogs are featured here and spotlighted on the home page, giving you another way to communicate about neighborhood issues and topics of local interest. Set up your Akronist social network profile.
