Librarians from the Science & Technology division will explain the process of getting a U.S. patent, and show you how to do a preliminary patent search using the United States Patent & Trademark Office Web site. Basic computer skills and familiarity with the Internet is suggested.
Akron Area IP law firm announces new Stow offices, open house

Intellectual property seminar planned for Akron businesses
Akron-area marketing professionals and business owners are invited to learn how to protect creative ideas, trade names and logos when Intellectual Property Attorney Doninic Frisina presents “The Law of Branding,” June 20, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the downtown location of the Akron-Summit County Library.
The seminar will instruct marketing professionals and business owners in practical ways to protect business value and brands. This seminar is targeted for anyone who is launching, marketing or advertising a business, product or service, including creative professionals and inventors. Topics to be covered include: Legal considerations when selecting a brand; How to watch out for trademark pitfalls; Indentifying and mitigating IP risks; and How to protect a brand.
Akron companies secure Patriotic Patent
The Akron-based intellectual property firm of Frisina and Smith, LLC have secured a patent for a unique design that pairs the U.S. Bill of Rights with an American flag in an “inventive arrangement."
The patent for the ornamental design was secured last July on behalf of its Akron-based client, the American Values Flag Company. The flags are now available for purchase online at www.AmVal.org. The flags are being distributed nationwide for use during Memorial Day remembrance ceremonies and Fourth of July celebrations.
