Magical Theatre Company, Northeast Ohio’s professional resident and touring theatre for young audiences and families, remounts its original play, “Quoth the Raven” for one weekend only, Jan. 29 through 31 at Magical Theatre Company.
Five years ago, Magical Theatre Company commissioned a new play based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Adam Hoffman, playwright and company member at Magical Theatre Company, was selected to write the script, which subsequently toured for three seasons.
This successful production is being re-mounted, with a slight re-tooling. Some new material has been added, along with new scenery and the addition of a fourth actor.
In this production, news of the death of Edgar Allan Poe prompts a re-telling of some of his most mysterious and macabre works: “The Tell-Tale Heart,” ‘The Masque of the Red Death,” “The Cask of Amantillado,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “Annabel Lee,” and of course, “The Raven.”
Directed by Dennis O’Connell, “Quoth the Raven” is an adventure into the underground passages of the human soul. It features the professional company of actors from Magical Theatre Company, including the playwright Adam Hoffman from Cuyahoga Falls, as well as Amanda Kidd (Kent), Deb Lemire (Cuyahoga Falls) and Mark Ross (Akron).
Suggested for families ages 12 and up, “Quoth the Raven” plays Friday Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m.; as well as Sunday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 to $16 per person and reservations may be made online: www.magicaltheatre.org or by calling (330) 848-3708. The recently – and beautifully – restored Magical Theatre Company is located at 565 W. Tuscarawas Ave. in Barberton.
