Samuel Salsbury, acclaimed Akron musician and spiritual seeker/teacher, is offering two local music and meditation events this May, after returning from several months of intensive musical study in India.
Salsbury is best known for his soulful performances on the violin and, more recently, for his work with an ancient Indian stringed instrument called the sarangi. On May 21, at 7 p.m., he will lead an “Evening of Meditation”; and on May 30, at 7 p.m., he will share “Lessons from India.”
Music lovers and people of all backgrounds and spiritual traditions—including beginners and lifelong seekers—are warmly welcomed to both events.
The “Evening of Meditation” will feature guided meditation exercises, silent meditation and musical meditation with live sarangi. Personal reflections on deepening the inner life will gently relax participants into a spirit of peace and prayer. The event will take place at Mingo Pavilion in Sand Run Metro Park (1501 Sand Run Parkway, Akron, OH 44313). “Lessons from India” will be a time of music and storytelling as Salsbury shares the musical and personal journey that has taken him across many continents. He will tell of his recent experiences in the holy Indian cities of Varanasi and Rishikesh and describe the joys—and challenges—of classical Indian music and the sarangi. He will also play a composition based on a classical Indian raga on sarangi. The event will take place at Pure Intentions Wheatgrass & School of Energy (156 W. North St., Akron, OH 44303).
