The Akron RubberDucks announced today it will host the first-ever RubberDucks 5K Run set to take place on Sunday, June 1 at 10 a.m. After running the streets of Downtown Akron, runners will finish at the newly-renovated Canal Park, where the RubberDucks will face the Harrisburg Senators starting at 2:05 p.m.
The 5K will officially start at 10:30 a.m. outside Canal Park on South Main Street. In addition to the 5K, the RubberDucks will also be hosting a one-mile Kids Fun Run starting at 10:00 a.m., so the whole family can participate. As part of Family FUNday, kids 12 and under will also have the opportunity to run the bases after the game, as they do every Sunday.
“This is going to be a great event for our fans and the city of Akron,” said RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander. “It is a chance for folks to get some fresh air and exercise, as well as some exciting RubberDucks baseball, all while enjoying the wonderful backdrop of Downtown Akron.”
Entrance to the game, as well as two draft beers or sodas, are included in the registration fee for the 5K. Participants who register before May 20 pay an early-registration fee of $25. After May 20, registration is $30. The one-mile Kids Fun Run costs $10, which includes a game ticket and two sodas. Registration for both the 5K and Kids Fun Run ends on May 31 at 6 p.m.
Participants can register for either event by visiting the Western Reserve Racing website at http://www.westernreserveracing.com/events/akron-rubber-ducks-5k/. After registering, 5K participants will need to pick up their packets on Saturday, May 31 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at the RubberDucks Team Shop located at Canal Park, or on Sunday, June 1 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the race.
A $15 picnic lunch is also available to participants as well as additional game tickets for a discounted price of $7.
The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2014 season is its 18th since moving to Canal Park and its first since becoming the RubberDucks.
