Akron Snow Angels will host “Christmas in July” for area people facing homelessness, Sunday, July 22, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Grace Park (downtown at Perkins and Prospect).
As part of the free event, Akron Snow Angels will pass out wrist bands to the first 300 people on site, which include tickets good for a tote bag donated by Goodwill — filled with toiletries, one-day bus passes donated by Metro, snacks from Sam’s Club, peanut butter from Smucker’s, socks, underwear and other necessities.
DJ John Myers will provide live music, and Tim Fitzwater of Fitzwater Photography will be on site documenting the event and taking pictures for people who have never had a professional picture or family photo taken.
Lunch will be served compliments of Retro Dog paired with popcorn from Crazy But True Hudson, bananas from Sam’s Club & chips from Friends of Camp Christopher. Kona Ice will be on site serving up cool treats for dessert.
Gavin Scott, ARO Salon & Hair Ink will offer free haircuts, powered by generators donated by Metis Construction. Faithful Servants Care Center & Axess Pointe Health Centers will be on site providing basic medical screening and evaluations.
Children will receive a backpack and a free book of their choice while supplies last. Children may also enjoy games, a craft table and spend time with Santa and Mrs. Claus, who plan to arrive at 1:30 p.m. For info, visit http://www.akronsnowangels.com/.
