The Akron Vulcans will kick off its first ever home game as a member of the National Futsal Premier League (NFPL) Sunday, Jan. 19, at Akron’s historic Goodyear Hall. The match, which kicks off at 8:05 p.m., is sandwiched in the middle of one of the largest youth futsal tournaments in the country. The opponent will be neighboring Columbus Futsal.
The Akron team is led by former Cleveland Crunch indoor soccer teammates Otto Orf and Nicholas DiCello. Three of the team’s star players are current national champions from Club Athletico San Lorenzo in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The goalkeeping stable includes a seasoned Brazilian professional and a former student of Orf’s ‘HandsOnSoccer’ summer camps. The remainder of the team is a international mix of talent from Panama, Jamaica, Algeria, Africa and right here in Northeast Ohio.
Futsal is indoor soccer with no walls. The game of futsal is increasing in popularity and will return to the 2022 Junior Olympics in Dakar, Senegal.
