The Akron Youth Symphony will open its performance season with a special concert that will combine traditional classical with a tribute to the armed forces Sunday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m., at the MAPS Air Museum in Canton.
Under the baton of Music Director Eric Benjamin, the Youth Symphony will perform two movements from Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 3”; Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait”; Robert Lowden’s “Armed Forces Salute”; and Dudley Buck’s “Festival Overture on the American National Air,” which is based on the melody of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Tickets are $5 for all ages and may be purchased at akronsymphony.org or by calling the Symphony Box Office at (330) 535- 8131. Tickets will be available at the door on the day of the performance, if available.
The MAPS Air Museum is located at 2260 International Parkway in North Canton.
Upcoming youth orchestra concerts include:
- Akron Youth Orchestras Winter Concert on Jan. 27, at 3 p.m. at the Tallmadge High School Auditorium. The Akron Youth Symphony and Akron Youth Philharmonic will perform.
- Akron Youth Orchestras Side-by-Side Concert on March 10 at 3 p.m. at the Medina Performing Arts Center. The Akron Youth Symphony and Akron Youth Philharmonic will perform together on the stage.
- Akron Youth Symphony Spring Concert on May 5, at 3 p.m. at the Tallmadge High School Auditorium.
