
Violinist Ayaka Coffman will be the guest soloist at the Akron Youth Symphony’s May 7 concert. A freshman at Hoban High School, she’s the 2017 winner of the youth symphony’s Concerto Competition.
The Akron Youth Symphony will present its Spring Concert Sunday, May 7, 3 p.m. at the Giese Center for the Performing Arts, located on the campus of The University of Mount Union.
The symphony, under the direction of Eric Benjamin, will present an afternoon of music, including the March from “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the theme from “The Pirates of the Caribbean,” Schubert’s “Rosamunde” and more.
There will also be a solo by violinist Ayaka Coffman, the 2017 winner of the Akron Youth Symphony’s Concerto Competition, during Bruch’s Concerto No. 1. A freshman at Hoban High School, Coffman performed with the Akron Youth Philharmonic for two years before joining the Akron Youth Symphony.
Tickets, which are required for the performance, are $10; children ages 10 and under are free. Seating is general admission. Tickets may be purchased online at akronsymphony.org or through the Akron Symphony box office by calling (330) 535-8131. Tickets will be available the day of the concert beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Giese Center.
