Inaugural fundraiser will help support scaffolding and supplies for student art collective
— The Art Bomb Brigade is hosting its first-ever Flannel Fest, Friday, Jan. 12, 8 p.m. at the Rialto Theatre, in Akron’s Kenmore neighborhood.
The event, which will celebrate such alliterative items as beards, bluegrass and beer, is a fundraiser for the collaborative program, which has been assembling lead artists to work with local students to create stunning public murals in the Akron area.
The night will kick off at 8 p.m. with Rubber City Ukes, a local ukulele collective that will perform sing-along tunes. Attendees are encouraged to BYOS (bring your own strings) to play-along (a song list will be posted to the Flannel Fest Facebook event page). Other performers will include Cave Twins, David Mayfield (Jessica Lee Mayfield’s brother). The live music will be supported by The Devil Strip magazine.
Flannel Fest promises weird contests and activities, like a beard contest, and proceeds will help the Art Bomb Brigade pay for scaffolding and other necessary equipment.
The Rialto Theatre is located at 1000 Kenmore Blvd.
Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at www.therialtotheatre.com/tickets/flannel-fest-1122018. For info, visit www.facebook.com/events/129430941164406/.
