As part of its affiliation with the Akron Marathon Rubber City Race Series, Thirsty Dog Brewing Company has announced the addition of a custom beer to its diverse lineup of offerings. Blue Line Brew will be released in conjunction with the June 27 running of the Thirsty Dog 8k & 1-mile.
Blue Line Brew is an American ale with 10 IBU’s from the mosaic hops, creating a slightly fruity flavor and chocolate malts for the rich amber color and dry finish at 3.4-percent ABV. It will be one of 20 craft beers available at the Thirsty Dog Brewing Company Runners’ Circle following the June 27 race.
“The Akron Marathon was founded in 2003 to help drive a sense of community in Akron,” said Anne Bitong, Akron Marathon President/Executive Director. “Our partnership with Thirsty
Dog is a continuation of that belief, and we’re thrilled to work with a local business that is doing great things and garnering attention on a regional and national level.”
The Thirsty Dog 8k & 1-mile will start and finish at Summa Field at The University of Akron’s InfoCision Stadium.
Participants of the 8k will receive a short sleeve shirt, medal with built in beer opener, commemorative pint glass and entry to the Runners’ Circle with five tasting tickets (valid for Thirsty Dog beer tastings or for root beer). One-mile participants will receive a short sleeve shirt, commemorative root beer mug and an entry to the Runners’ Circle with a ticket for a Thirsty Dog craft root beer.
Runners and spectators will also have the opportunity to buy additional beer tickets. “We felt the name was a great way to pay homage to the place the Akron Marathon has built in our community,” said John Najeway, Thirsty Dog Vice President. “And Blue Line Brew will be great way to celebrate finishing the first leg of the Rubber City Race Series.”
The 2015 race dates for the inaugural running of the Rubber City Race Series are as follows: June 27 (Thirsty Dog 8k & 1-mile), Aug. 15 (Goodyear Half Marathon & 10k) and Sept. 26 (Akron Marathon, Half Marathon, Team Relay & Kids Fun Run). The dates were developed to help guide runners through a typical training schedule.
Registration for all three Rubber City Race Series events are open, with incentives geared toward running multiple events. The entry fee is $55 for the 8k and $25 for the 1-mile, with roughly 3,000 spots available between the two events.
Registration and additional information on the Series are available at www.RubberCityRaceSeries.org or by calling (330) 434-2RUN (2786).
