The need for acceptance and understanding is a common human experience.
Community AIDS Network/Akron Pride Initiative (CANAPI) will host its annual Race at the Raffle event this Saturday, April 1, to benefit local programs assisting persons living with HIV as well as the LGBTQ community. The event will take place from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at the Tangier in Akron.
“Our humanity is the greatest thing about each of us,” said Rebecca Callahan, executive director of CANAPI. “And also the one thing we are sure to have in common. Every person has a right to be treated fairly and equally. I will continue to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, and I urge you to do the same.”
The event will feature entertainingly narrated horse races that are sponsored and bet on by participants, a reverse raffle, sideboards, 50/50 raffle and both silent and live auctions. Ten race sponsorships are available on a first-come first-served basis, as are special table rates, which include discount admission tickets and the rights to name your table and horse.
Horse sponsorships, including naming, are available for $20. Tickets are $100 per person and include a reverse raffle ticket, open bar and hors d’oeuvres.
