Cascade Locks Park Association will honor the contributions to Akron made by Irish immigrants, particularly their role in building the canals, with the “Lock of the Irish” event, Sunday, March 17, from 1 to 6: p.m., at the Trailhead at Cascade Lofts (21 W. North St.).
Lock 15 Brewing Company will provide an Irish-themed menu and beer. Attendance is free, but food and beverages are priced separately.
The event features games, activities for children and a bake sale of Irish-themed goodies, along with live music by the Wolf Creeque Band and a performance from the Celtic Storm Irish folk dancers from 3 to 4 p.m. Local celebrity bartenders include Yoly Miller, Karen Starr, Shane Wynn, Chris Miller, Tim Fitzwater, Scott Read, Meghan Meeker and Father Norm of St. Vincent’s church.
“The Lock of the Irish Event was inspired to honor the contributions made by Irish immigrants to the area in the
building of the Ohio and Erie Canal,” said Don Gordon, executive director of Cascade Locks Park Association. “Families are encouraged to attend for delicious food, drink, fun entertainment, great music, the Northside area and a little Akron history,”

Price of a meal ticket includes a choice of one of four Irish dishes and two drink tickets. Individual tickets for one menu item may be purchased for $15. A child’s ticket is $10. Tickets may be purchased by following the event link on the organization’s Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/CascadeLocksParkAssociation).
