For individuals and families seeking to adopt or host foster children, Summit County Children Services will host a free foster care and adoption information meeting Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Compass Coffee at The Well CDC, 647 E. Market St., in Akron.
Residents who attend the information meeting will learn a variety of details about foster care and adoption, including how long the process is, what kind of support is provided by the agency, and the minimal costs involved with adopting a child through a public agency such as Summit County Children Services. (NOTE: SCCS charges no fees for adoption services)
Agency staff will be available to share basic information about the children who need foster or adoptive homes. This event is free and open to the entire community and reservations are not needed. Children Services also will broadcast this event live on the agency’s Facebook page for those unable to attend in person.
Currently, there are nearly 150 children in the permanent custody of Children Services and almost 50 children do not have an identified adoptive family. The need for foster and foster-to-adopt families continues to rise. “Children Services is committed to the safety, permanency, and well-being of all children served,” said Julie Barnes, executive director of Summit County Children Services. “Foster and foster-to-adopt families are often the first step in helping children heal and adjust by providing a safe and loving home they deserve.”
