A new tree is growing in the Spring Garden Waldorf School lobby: an ever changing work of art built with some help from the greater Akron art and business community.
This “living” tree sculpture is a collaborative creation of local businesses Lime Creative and On Q Solutions, coupled with local artists Michael Marras (who made the tree outside of Hazeltree Designs on West Market Street) and Ursula Rauh.
The work began with a drawing from creative designer, Susan Panning, of Lime Creative. From there, Joe Milone, at retail design display company On Q Solutions, built the 3-D tree model and adhered it to the wall. Then local artist, Ursula Rauh. brought the tree to life with detailed painting on the trunk and limbs. Finally, Akron Art Prize winner Michael Marras was commissioned to create the tree’s canopy and leaves.
Spring Garden pursued this creative endeavor to brighten and enliven its lobby and also to thank donors from their Raise the Roof Capital Campaign. Getting a new roof on the school has been critical to the longevity of the building and the safe education of the SGWS children.
“We hope this beautiful tree inspires everyone who comes to our school,” said Admission Director Amy Hecky. “It represents our ever-growing community and the life of all those thriving within.”
