There is a storm a brewing in Northeast Ohio. It doesn’t involve high wind or rain. It involves people. People, who are losing hope, people who thought they’d never be in this kind of situation, people who thought they had made it. They are the middle class — educated, professionals, often over 45.
They have master’s degrees, and they are executives, architects, IT professionals, teachers, human resource managers and training and development professionals. They are out of work, without employment resources available to them; they are losing hope and in financial ruins.
They are America’s best workers, the bedrock of our country’s financial success; many are sinking and someone is about to throw them a life jacket.
The Community Job Club of Stow, Ohio recently participated in the Department of Labor Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships roundtable to address the many issues of the unemployed. The live webinar took place on May 24 and is available on a video link at https://partnerships.workforce3one.org/.
As a result, there is an even greater commitment from the DOL to support and to grow Job Clubs across the county. The Community Job Club of Stow was showcased as one of several stellar examples of volunteers reaching out and providing extensive resources to unemployed individuals in their community. This Club not only supplies its members job search techniques, professional networks, information about careers and programs, and peer support, they also provide emotional support and counseling.
The Community Job Club of Stow is becoming the “go to” club for assisting new clubs to get started so others can also help to put Americans back to work.
Diana Miller, the club’s founder, has become an innovator for successful techniques and methods for job seekers to find success in what is a very difficult job market in Ohio. In addition, her methodologies in defining each component necessary to achieve results and implement management strategies for each has brought about success for the members as well as the club as a whole. A video documenting the achievements of The Community Job Club is located at http://vimeo.com/24055447.
In addition, The Cleveland Plain Dealer is planning to do a feature story on members of The Community Job Club of Stow. If you want to be part of this, it is critical that you attend our meetings on a regular basis.
