Masque of The Red Death is a masquerade ball themed loosely around Edgar Allan Poe’s short story of the same name. The doors to Prince Prospero’s castle (The Civic) open at 8 p.m. Oct. 25.
Now in its fifth year, The Masque of the Red Death is Akron’s premier Halloween event for adults. Each year, hundreds of souls celebrate deep into the night at a most macabre, artfully elegant, daring, dramatic and decadent Halloween extravaganza at the historic and haunted Akron Civic Theatre. The Masque is a voluptuous scene where costumes, masks and disguises are in vogue.
Prospero’s well-dressed guests enjoy food, drink, and revelry as Shivering Timbers performs live at 8 p.m. in the Grand Lobby. Dancing on the Civic Theatre stage begins at 9 p.m. The theatre’s mezzanine level is transformed into a “gypsy trail,” where guests will find tarot, palm readers and psychics, including Teena Angellique, Shirallah Majic, DJ Ownbey, and Lori & Jay.
Throughout the evening, guests will encounter unexpected artistic “happenings” presented by Zach, NEOS Dance Theatre, Ferris Brown, Wandering Aesthetics, Bill Bishop, Red on Fire, John Flower and Nikki Rettman.
And if that’s not enough, revelers will enjoy New World Performance Lab’s interactive game as they try to determine the identity of the rogue who has invited Death to the party.
Tickets for the event are $50 and include heavy appetizers, beer, wine and the signature drink. A $75 ticket is available, which includes a full bar service. Attendees must be 21 to enter. Tickets are on sale now at the Civic Theatre Box Office (330) 253-2488 or online at www.reddeathparty.com. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door.
