Thursday, Sept. 18 marks the annual Father’s Walk event, where dads, uncles, grandfathers and other male role models participate in the simple activity of walking their children to school.
Ann Ream and Jeanne Bennett from Children Services reflect on the success of the agency’s Father Factor program and the importance of men being involved in their children’s lives. Ream and Bennett, co-chairs of the Father Factor program, have seen a successful focus on fathers in recent years.
“There’s overwhelming evidence of the pivotal role a father plays in a child’s life,” said Ream.
“The research has been consistent for about 15 years that men play a role in a child’s life that nobody else can play, and they’re very important to academic success and role modeling father and mother behavior to their children,” said Bennett.
Fathers and father figures are encouraged to walk their children to school Aug. 18. For information about the program, visit www.famefathers.org.
