Akron is home to some incredibly talented folks. Nonfiction book authors D.X. Ferris and Joanna Wilson are both Akron residents with a national reputation and readership.
Ferris is the award-winning writer and rock criticism book author of “Slayer’s Reign in Blood” (2008) of the 33 1/3 series, and “Slayer 662/3: The Jeff and Dave Years: A Metal Band Biography” (2013).
Wilson is the TV researcher/writer of
“Tis the Season TV: The Encyclopedia of Christmas TV Episodes, Specials and Made-for-TV Movies” (2010).
She also penned the local history/nostalgia book “The Story of Archie the Talking Snowman & Akron’s History of Christmas Attractions” (2015).
Despite the vast differences of published subject matter, these two Akron neighbors and friends are coming together to host a book signing. The public is welcome to meet and greet the two book authors on Saturday, June 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Urban Eats Café, located at 51 E. Market Street in Akron. The book signing is free and open to the public.
Both authors will have copies of their books for sale and will be available to sign them. The book signing takes place during Downtown Akron Partnership’s Artwalk, the monthly art spree which takes place in venues throughout downtown Akron on the first Saturday of each month. The signing event is called Fire & Ice to connect the subjects of Ferris’ metal rockers Slayer with Wilson’s Christmas themes.
In addition to the book signing, Ferris will debut a brand new book, “Suburban Metal Dad,” a collection of his online comic strip, which he wrote and illustrated. Ferris’ comics outrageously detail the daily struggles of working as an adjunct at the University of Akron, raising two daughters, and writing rock criticism at night.
Ferris’ “Slayer 662/3: The Jeff and Dave Years: A Metal Band Biography” book is $16.66 and can also be purchased through the publisher’s website: http://6623press.tumblr.com/.
Wilson’s “The Story of Archie the Talking Snowman” is $20, and “Tis the Season TV” is $35.
All five of Wilson’s books may also be purchased from the publisher’s website: http://www.1701press.com/ Ferris’ and Wilson’s books can also be purchased on Amazon.com.
