Event benefits University of Akron’s Art Bomb Brigade

The University of Akron’s Art Bomb Brigade will host its Second Annual Flannel Fest event Friday, Feb. 1, to help raise funds for generating more murals throughout the Greater Akron region.
The event, which takes place at Akron Recording Company (243 Furnace St.), will kick off at 8 p.m. with the music of Rubber City Ukes, a local ukulele club that’s open to the public. The group will play a selection of sing-alongs, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own strings.
At 9:30 p.m., the Cory Grinder Band, an Akron-based honky-tonk group, will offer toe-tapping, line-dancing, and partner-swinging tunes.
The event will include plenty of beards and contests, along with raffle prizes and, of course, an abundance of flannel. Prizes will be offered for the Best Natural Beard, Best Freestyle Beard, Most Flannel Ever Worn by One Person, Most Bedazzled Flannel, and Best Axe Throwing! A nacho bar will be available, and the event is BYOB (bring your own beverage).
Tickets are $20 and may be purchased pre-sale through the Facebook event page or at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2nd-annual-flannel-fest-tickets-54538262411).

Proceeds will help Art Bomb Brigade purchase equipment needed to continue creating its eye-catching public murals, which have become landmarks in the region. You can find their work at Downtown Laundromat, Barberton Library, Community Support Services of Summit County, Chill Ice Cream Company, the Akron Sustainer, Echogen, Summit County Health Department, Countryside Conservancy Public Market, and Akron’s Historic Arts & Culture District.
The Art Bomb Brigade is a community arts program run out of the Myers School of Art at the University of Akron. Supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Art Bomb Brigade’s mission is to breathe new life into Akron neighborhoods through vibrant mural art.
