‘Fourth on the Field’ will include ‘Rogue One,’ fireworks
— Canal Park baseball stadium will host a viewing of Star Wars’ “Rogue One” along with a place to view the city’s fireworks. Proceeds will benefit Akron Snow Angels, a nonprofit that offers support to people facing homelessness.
“Fourth on the Field” takes place on Tuesday, July 4 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5, and the movie will followed by the city of Akron’s fireworks.
Gates will open at 6 p.m. with “Rogue One” slated to start at 7 p.m. A brief intermission will follow the movie before the start of the fireworks.
Canal Park also will have concessions stands and restrooms open for families. Fans may bring blankets and sit on the field and enjoy popcorn and other snacks. However, no chairs are permitted on the playing field.
Fourth on the Field will take place rain or shine, and fans may also sit in the stands to enjoy the movie and fireworks.
Each year since Ken Babby became team owner in 2013, the RubberDucks have had a home game or hosted a Fourth on the Field event, as was the case in 2015.
“We are excited to host the ‘Fourth on the Field’ event this year and have fans come celebrate Independence Day by spending time with family and friends at Canal Park,” said RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander. “Canal Park is such a terrific centerpiece for Akron and Northeast Ohio, and we are confident fans will have so much fun that each year they will be excited to come to the ballpark on July 4.”
Tickets are $5 and available at akronrubberducks.com or at the Canal Park Box Office (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and the event benefits the Akron Snow Angels’ overall mission of spreading warmth and connecting with the most vulnerable in our community by providing basic essentials and fostering compassionate friendships while inspiring others to do the same.
Snow Angels envisions a community where every individual is warm and treated with compassion and respect. For info about the Snow Angels, visit www.AkronSnowAngels.com. or find them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/akronsnowangels.
