Freedom House for Women has provided substance abuse treatment, recovery housing and other support services to local women fighting addiction for a decade. The nonprofit will host its 10th year Anniversary and Awards Recognition Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m. at Akron Urban League’s President Hall.
Keynote speakers include Judge Annalisa Williams and Judge Joy Malek Oldfield. The following organizations will be honored as influential leaders in the community: Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA), Access to Recovery (ATR), Corbin Foundation, Freedom House for Women, IBH Addiction Recovery Services, Legacy III, Oriana House, Summit County ADM Board, Summit County Public Health (SCPH) and the University of Akron.
Freedom House’s mission is to provide services to enhance, enrich and empower women to gain employment skills, sober living, education and economic security to improve their quality of life and to achieve self-sufficiency.
“This is another opportunity to introduce the community to the wealth of services we offer to Northeast Ohio,” said Eva Hartwell, founder and CEO of Freedom House for Women, who adds that Freedom House is the administrator of the New Journey Recovery Housing Program, one of the four selected and funded organizations in 2014, by Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services (OMHAS). Currently the program is contracted by Summit County ADM Board to provide recovery housing to women in Summit County. Freedom House for Women provides an array of services including recovery support services, case management, individual/group counseling, peer support and recovery housing.
The menu will be provided by Executive Chef Hertistine Price of Ernie’s Catering. Proceeds will benefit Freedom House for Women, which was founded in 2007 as a homeless prevention program to prevent single mothers with children from becoming homeless that reside in AMHA housing.
