Pack up your gently used books, CDs and DVDs, and head to Book-It for Main Library. This year’s event takes place at the library’s 60 S. High St. curbside, May 17, from 9 a.m. until noon (rain or shine). Volunteers will greet donors and help unload donations from their vehicles.
Book-It provides a valuable opportunity for people to “de-clutter” and recycle media back into the community. Receipts will be available, as donations made to the Akron-Summit County Public Library are tax deductible. Librarians will review the items and may select some for the library’s current collection; others will be given to the Friends of Main Library for its Library Shop on Main, a used book and gift shop.
Monetary donations may also be made and memberships to Friends of the Main Library can be purchased at the event. This year’s curbside volunteers feature the Boy Scouts of Ellet-based Troop #310, under the direction of Scout Master Phil Schoch. In addition to assisting book donors, the scouts will accept worn and unusable U.S. flags for proper retirement.
Sponsors of Book-It for Main Library are the Akron-Summit County Public Library, the Friends of Main Library and the Library Shop on Main. The Friends of Main Library support the Summer Reading Program, author events and many other library programs and projects.
