Akron Promise will host a golf fundraiser Saturday, May 18, starting at 8 a.m., at Mayfair Country Club, in Green. All proceeds benefit scholarships for students attending Kenmore-Garfield High School. Tickets, which cost $70, are available at www.akronpromise.org and include golf, prizes and meals.
In the spring of 2018, Akron Promise and the Stark State College Foundation awarded eight Kenmore-Garfield graduates full tuition and book scholarships.
“For many Akron students, a major barrier to post-secondary education is money,” said Tom Ghinder, founder of Akron Promise, Inc. “For the second year in a row, Akron Promise will remove that barrier for up to 10 Kenmore-Garfield High School students. We believe all students deserve a chance at a post-secondary certificate or degree, leading to a satisfying career and quality of life.”
In addition, Ghinder added, “Akron Promise is trying to shape the culture of education in Akron to help ensure that all students have access to appropriate supports, resources and opportunities.”
The event ticket includes 18 holes and a cart, door prizes, proximity contests, breakfast and a steak lunch.
Sponsorships are available at various levels for the tournament and individual holes. Door prize donations are still being accepted.
For non-golf participants, lunch only tickets are available for $20 per person. Lunch will be served from noon to 1:30 p.m. the day of the event. Ticket includes lunch, dessert and a drink voucher. Mayfair Country Club is located at 2229 Raber Road.
The event will be partially catered by the Kenmore-Garfield High School Culinary Department.
