Two local artists, Francisca Ugalde and Pamela Testa, are being featured in the upcoming summer art show, ‘Ex + Purgare’, at Akron’s Hazel Tree Interiors.
The opening reception will take place during the June Akron ArtWalk, on Saturday, June 6, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The show’s title and the works have developed as the two artists are both currently working independently on the processing and purging of ideas.
Ugalde works with oil on canvas and mixed media such as oil markers, pencil, acrylic on paper, then mounts her art on wood. “This particular body of work is about the purge of these images out of my head and onto paper and canvas, giving them new life,” Ugalde said.
Testa is a printmaker that uses intaglio and relief but puts a spin on the traditional method by changing colors, cutting and incorporating other materials, usually found objects. “My work in printmaking and sculpture are process-oriented and always include some sort of repetitiveness in the making. I like the use of multiples, and the imagery usually comes from nature or natural objects,” said Testa.
She received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Printmaking from Kent State University and Ugalde received her bachelor’s degree in Painting from Kent and her master’s in Arts Administration from the University of Akron.
The show, “Ex + Purgare,” will run until Aug. 1. The opening reception will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Hazel Tree Interiors, located at 143 W. Market St., in Akron.
Gallery weekly hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
