Last Chance Holiday Bazaar is a new arts and craft show in Kent. It’s held on the second and third floor Zephyr Pub, which is kind of weird, having a holiday bazaar in a bar, but it fits Kent’s tradition of being a little weird.
The show is the brainchild of Rachel Jernigan, a journeyman painter and nearly 20-year habitué of Kent and me, J Hudson, co-founder of Crafty Mart, Sausage Fest and other local marts and festivals. Rachel realized that the Zephyr was a great venue for an arts and craft show because of its many floors and outdoor space. Thanks to the Zephyr’s owners, Nancy Islamov and Michael Tribuzzo, the first Zephyr Mart was held in September. Now we are putting on a holiday bazaar Dec. 22 for procrastinators and people that have been too busy to shop before then.
The show will feature a number of Kent artists and crafters but will also include some Akron, Canton and Cleveland vendors. The show also will have some people selling vintage clothes. The Last Chance Holiday Bazaar draws from and relies on the unique Kent lifestyle personified by its many art school graduates, musicians, young moms and dads who refuse to let their creative lives die and so continue on create in their spare time: jewelry, toys, scarves, glass bottles and bowls, greeting cards, comic books, CDs, lamps, journals, paintings and T-shirts are among some of the many items that will be available at the Last Chance Holiday Bazaar.
Of course, because the Zephyr is a pub, there will be drinks available and food can be ordered from the Zephyr neighbor Taco Tanto’s. Since the Bazaar will be held during the day, the event is family friendly. Jernigan hopes to have a series of events at the Zephyr and when the weather is warm, these events will move outside and have a Zephyr Fest that includes art, music, food and beverages. We also hope to have a regular flea market in the summer.
If you come out to the Zephyr, you can help support local Kent and if you’d like to support it even more, you can buy a Keep Kent Weird T-shirt at the bar on the first floor. The event takes place Dec. 22 Dec. 22, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
