Director will be honored at Sept. 26 ‘Savor the Summit’ fundraiser’
— Summit Food Coalition will present its inaugural Local Food Hero Award to Lisa Nunn of Let’s Grow Akron at the Coalition’s upcoming event Sept. 26.
Nunn, executive director of Let’s Grow Akron, is being honored for her significant positive impact on the local food system in Summit County through her work educating youth and adults on how to grow, prepare and preserve nutritious food for themselves and their families.
Let’s Grow Akron provides guidance on starting community gardens throughout Summit County; leads programs teaching youth about agriculture — from seed-starting all the way through selling the fruits of their labor at farmers’ markets; pilots efforts to reduce waste through composting at community gardens; and collaborates with fellow community organizations to bring much needed fresh produce to communities previously lacking access.
Her enthusiasm, positive attitude, collaborative spirit and grit are all attributes contributing to her selection as Summit Food Coalition’s inaugural Local Food Hero, according to the Summit Food Coalition.
The award will be given at the Coalition’s upcoming event “Savor the Summit: Celebrating Local Food, Brews, and Heroes,” Sept. 26, from 6 to 9 p.m. at HiHO Brewing in Cuyahoga Falls. It is the first event of its kind for the Coalition, combining the honoring of an individual/organization making a positive impact on the local food system in Summit County with a fundraiser to support the organization.
Tickets are $45 pre-sale and $50 at the door, and may be purchased through the Coalition’s website: summitfoodcoalition.org/upcoming-events. Live music from The Gage Brothers and a cash bar will be available.
