The Women’s Network of Northeast Ohio has appointed Jan Conrad as its executive director, a newly created position.
Conrad has extensive experience in business startups, expansion strategy and an in-depth understanding of some of the unique issues faced by women in the workplace, according to Women’s Network.
“We are thrilled to have found someone with the passion, vision and expertise to take Women’s Network to the next level,” said Kirsten Lino, Women’s Network president. “Having worked alongside Jan for our entrepreneurial programming, we have had the opportunity to see her capabilities, as well as her alignment with our culture. She will be a powerful asset to our organization.”
As executive director, Conrad’s focus will be on building community impact, organizational capacity, growth momentum and program development. This includes the upcoming Women’s Leadership Summit: Flux, a full day conference to focus on empowering women and creating equitable workplaces in the community. “I am thrilled for the opportunity to lead the Women’s Network at this strategic juncture in its growth,” said Conrad. “It is an exciting time for women in Akron. My passion is to see women develop and rise to their full potential, gaining economic vitality for themselves, their families and their communities.”
Conrad previously worked for ECDI/WBC, where she served as the director of the Women’s Business Center of Northern Ohio. She was instrumental in opening the center in 2015, where she coached and trained over 800 women, resulting in 50-plus business startups and distribution of over $2 million in capital.
Her leadership led to the Northern Ohio WBC being recognized by the SBA as a model for engagement and overall results, awarding it the Women’s Business Center of Excellence. In her new role, she will continue to collaborate with ECDI/WBC in the entrepreneurial programming that has developed over the past several years.
She also worked in Florida with professionals transitioning out of Kennedy Space Center upon retirement of the Space Shuttle Program. As Community Resources Director for Career Source Brevard, she coordinated extensive training programs throughout Central Florida such as Startup Quest and Biz Launch, where she assisted over 100 individuals’ transition from careers at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center to small business ownership.
Conrad’s formal training includes a Business Management degree from Western Governors University and Certifications as a Growth Wheel Business Advisor through Growth Wheel International, Inc. and Certification as a Florida Workforce Professional through the Dynamic Works Institute.
