The Akron Chapter of Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) will host the University of Akron’s 17th President Matthew J. Wilson, J.D. during its regular June luncheon meeting Akron, Thursday, June 8.
He’ll speak on the topic “UA — Tackling Challenges Through Actions, Communication, and Transparency.” Wilson will share his insights on resetting the university’s state of public relations among students, parents, alumni and the wider community.
Wilson was the dean of UA’s law school when he was tapped to become interim president in July 2016, after a turbulent period of change at UA. He was quickly named the permanent president in October, in large part because of his gift for revitalizing The University of Akron’s brand and reconnecting with its many communities.
He’s an international scholar and authority on Japanese law, having been senior associate dean and general counsel for Temple University’s Japan campus in Tokyo and director of Temple’s law program there for six years. He is the author of several books in both Japanese and English. Wilson has also practiced law in Florida, New Jersey and Japan. Immediately before coming to The University of Akron in 2014, he was The University of Wyoming College of Law associate dean of both students and academic affairs, as well as professor of law.
The June 8 meeting will take place at The Tangier Restaurant. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $25 for PRSA members; $30 for nonmembers; and $15 for students. for tickets, contact Lianne Fowler, PRSA Chapter Administrator, at 330-780-5175 or email: [email protected].
