The Junior League of Akron will host its fourth Early Bird Bustle 5K and Family Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, Oct. 29, starting at St. Vincent-St Mary High School, (15 N Maple St. in Akron) winding along the Cascade Valley Park system and industrial Akron. The 5K race begins at 9 a.m., with the Kidz Fun Run starting at 10 a.m.
A family festival will take place following the race (from 9 a.m. to noon) featuring face-painting, pumpkin decorating and bobbing for apples, among other activities. Runners and families are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased the day of the race.
Proceeds of the run will support The Junior League of Akron’s Kids in the Kitchen community project, a program designed to help address urgent issues surrounding childhood obesity and poor nutrition, by educating both children and their families. Proceeds will also benefit community outreach efforts and volunteer training for Junior League of Akron members.
“Our Early Bird Bustle Family Fun Run/Walk promotes child health and wellness by empowering youth to make healthy choices early in order to prevent obesity and its associated health risks,” said Kimberly Young, president of The Junior League of Akron. “Please join as we strive to provide healthy lives for the kids of our community.”
