Junior League of Akron (JLA) was awarded a $3,000 grant from Cargill Salt of Akron. The grant will be applied toward JLA’s Kids in the Kitchen focus project.
Kids in the Kitchen is a multi-year initiative involving quarterly Kids in the Kitchen events in partnership with local community organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Western Reserve. The program is designed to creatively educate children on crucial areas such as fitness and nutrition in a fun and hands-on fashion.
“The Junior League of Akron is so grateful to Cargill for its generous donation,” said Cindy Retterer, President of the Junior League of Akron. “It will allow us to do more with our Kids in the Kitchen Program and have an even greater impact on the children we serve.” Also accepting the grant on behalf of JLA was Kimberly Young, league vice president of community outreach.
One of the largest volunteer service organizations in the area, the Junior League of Akron has active volunteers who have contributed more than 100,000 hours of service to the greater Akron community.
The Junior League of Akron is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for women to gain leadership skills and volunteer expertise while working on vital community projects. During its 88-year history, the organization’s members have contributed thousands of volunteer hours to organizations throughout Greater Akron. Members are business owners, working mothers, professional women and stay-at-home moms who are committed to community service. They represent more than 28 communities across Greater Akron.
