Leadership Akron Class 31 recently announced the recipient of its $10,000 New Connections Grant, The Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
The grant, made possible through the generous support of United Way of Summit County, will fund a first-time Family Connections program.
The Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park will collaborate with L.I.N.K.S. Community Family Services, which focuses on Akron’s University Park neighborhood.
The Family Connections program is a series of weekly educational and interactive seminars on a variety of family-centered topics to help families find and use vital services, programs and other resources. The program focuses on improving the quality of life and community of University Park families. The Conservancy and L.I.N.K.S. each bring specialized resources to this innovative collaboration and both seek to reveal a bigger picture perspective of “life resources” to participants.
“It was a pleasure for Class 31 to award The Conservancy for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and L.I.N.K.S. Community and Family Services with a grant of $10,000. We received over 20 applications and all were worthy projects; however, we chose to fund the Family Connections project because it is a wonderful new collaboration between two agencies who had not worked together in the past and because it will be a transformative experience for the families who will participate in this program,” said Leadership Akron Class 31 President, Margaret Jordan.
The grant was awarded to The Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park at the Leadership Akron Class 31 graduation on June 3. The Philanthropy Project is an annual exercise taken on by each Leadership Akron class, giving them a first-hand experience in grant writing as they consider how their own talents and resources can impact the Akron area.
