After a four-month search, the Leadership Akron board has approved the hiring of Barry Dunaway as the organization’s President. Replacing Mark Scheffler, who resigned last March, Dunaway will assume his presidency Nov. 26.
“The board of trustees are delighted that Barry is joining our team and look forward to harnessing his vast leadership experience and knowledge. With his addition, we will continue to offer high quality leadership programs while taking the organization to the next level,” said Bernett L. Williams, Vice President, External Affairs, Akron Children’s Hospital and Chair of the Leadership Akron board of trustees.
Dunaway, a fourth-generation Akronite and resident, is a graduate of the University of Akron with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management-Industrial Accounting. He joined The J. M. Smucker Company in 1987 and held various positions during his nearly 32-year tenure, retiring this past summer as the President of the Pet Food and Pet Snacks division. Dunaway has been a longtime supporter of the Akron community by serving on the board of the Akron Rotary Camp, Advisory Council for WKSU, and the Advisory Council for The University of Akron’s College of Business.
