Community Legal Aid invites pro bono attorneys to join them at their “Pancakes for Pro Bono” event Wednesday, Oct. 2, 8 to 10 a.m., at the Akron Bar Association, 57 S. Broadway St. The pancake breakfast recognizes attorneys who volunteer their time to serve the legal needs of low-income individuals in the area.
“This is our opportunity to give back to our volunteers,” said Steven McGarrity, executive director of the non-profit law firm. “We really wanted to have an event where we just show our appreciation and don’t ask for anything in return.”

All attorneys who are not current volunteers also are invited to have breakfast and network. Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak with Legal Aid staff about the benefits of the volunteer program, such as free continuing legal education (CLE) courses, malpractice insurance coverage, and paralegal support.
Legal Aid continues to celebrate “Pro Bono Month” throughout October and will host breakfast events in four other counties, including Stark, Portage, Mahoning and Trumbull. They will also host three free CLE courses on bankruptcy, record sealing and professionalism in poverty law for attorneys who want to learn more on these topics during the month as well.
