Special pilot outreach for Mind, Body & Sole targets day care centers, summer camps and senior residential and activity centers
For decades, the Akron-Summit Count Public Library’s annual reading program has made summer reading fun in all of its library locations. Now Mind, Body & Sole is coming to day care centers, summer camp programs, senior activity centers and senior residence communities through the pilot program–Mind, Body & Sole: Read At Your Own Place. Activity directors and camp counselors may call their local library for details.
Summer readers may visit the library this summer for the reading/exercise experience, Mind, Body & Sole: Read At Your Own Pace. Registrations are now open at Akron-Summit County Public Library locations, where participants may receive a Mind, Body, & Sole reading/exercise log and pedometer. Through Aug. 8, participants may check off each day they read for 30 minutes on their reading log. As reading milestones are reached, participants will be rewarded with incentives and be entered into drawings for great prizes.
Run/walk at least 26 miles (or 52,000 pedometer steps) over that same period of time. If a pedometer cannot record movement activity, participants may log a half-hour of activity as one mile. Fitness accomplishments may be recorded on an exercise log. When participants have reached 26 miles and read 26 days, they will receive a Mind, Body & Sole T-shirt and have the chance to be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing on Aug. 24.
Partners include the Akron Marathon, Summit County Public Health District, Friends of Main Library, Rubber City McDonalds, Akron RubberDucks, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, First Book of Greater Akron and Summit Metro Parks, with support from Akron Children’s Hospital, Akron General Hospital, Summa Health System and the Akron Community Foundation.
