Within the past couple of years, the local arts movement has picked up steam. Nowadays you can hear live bands jamming right downtown in some of your favorite eateries and venues, some even performing outside on downtown streets. Musically, this is an exciting time for Akron.
It was no surprise that on a recent Wednesday, Akron’s downtown was buzzing with music at Tear-Ez Lounge. If you missed the event, a group is spreading awareness via the #AkronMusicScene, a local music series that sponsors various local artists to come out and show off their talent, keeping live music alive.
“The idea is to create a creative musical scene for Akron; we need this here,” says Bryan Poole, coordinator of the event.
The concept comes from Poole’s experience as a musician and a proud resident of Akron. He expresses his concerns about music influence and development, especially in regards to technology. He hopes to bring back the live, authentic sounds and feeling of music in Akron.
In order to accomplish this, he has devoted his time to helping other bands showcase their talent. The #AkronMusicScene invites all bands and musicians from any genre to collaborate and perform.
The next #AkronMusicScene event is July 1, 8 p.m. at Annabell’s Bar & Lounge, 784 W. Market St., in Akron. Click here for more info.
