The 7th Annual Towpath Freedom 5k will honor U.S. veterans, along with supporting the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, Saturday, Nov. 10.
Registration begins 8:30 p.m. at Lock 3 Park, 200 S. Main St. in downtown Akron, and the event will kick off with a flag ceremony and National Anthem in honor of Veteran’s Day. Pins will be presented to those who have served. The race begins at 9 a.m.
Hosted by the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, proceeds will benefit the Ohio & Erie Canalway and the Towpath Trail.
Pre-registration cost is $30 and closes on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 11:59 p.m. Race-day registration is $35 and will take place at Lock 3 at 7:30 a.m., along with packet pick-up. All runners who register before Oct. 26 will receive a Tech T-shirt, with a limited amount available for race-day registrants. In honor of Veterans Day, the first 35 veterans to register will receive complimentary registration.
Runners will be timed with computer chips attached to their bib with results available on race day. More than 80 awards will be given out to the top three males and females from 13 age brackets, as well as the top three veterans. All participants are welcome to enjoy post-race food and beverages.
