A free community event will help explain the science behind addiction, Thursday, Nov. 3, 6:30 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron, 300 Morewood Road.
Dr. Nicole Labor will lead the discussion. She’s currently the associate medical director of Addiction Medicine for Summa, the director of the Addiction Medicine Fellowship for Summa and the medical director for Interval Brotherhood Home and 180 in Wooster.
The audience also will hear from the family member of an addict on compassion and boundaries, and the Rev. Tim Temerson, minister at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron, will share his insights on the spiritual side of addiction and recovery.
The discussion also features Aimee Wade, associate director of Clinical Services for the County of Summit ADM Board, and Angie Laakso, a volunteer at the church and an active member of the Behavioral Health Ministry. The panel will be moderated by Becky Dempster, Chief Officer of Summit County Behavioral Health at Coleman Professional Services.
