Megan, who grew up in an upper middle class household, started using heroin when she was 16. Her journey to recovery has led her through numerous treatment programs but the final wake-up call was having her newborn baby taken from her by Children Services last year. Thanks to a recovery coach from Freedom House for Women, Megan has been clean almost a year and has regained custody of her son. “I’ve been sober since he’s been alive, and I want to keep it that way,” she says. Freedom House for Women helps local women maintain sobriety, housing and employment, along with providing other life skills. Visit http://www.fh4women.org/ for more info.
