Applications due Sept. 1
— The Millennium Fund for Children of Akron Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations that improve the lives of local children.
Established in 1999, the Millennium Fund for Children is a permanent endowment created through a partnership between Akron Community Foundation and the Akron Beacon Journal/Ohio.com. Each year, a selection committee composed of fund donors recommends grants to children’s groups throughout the Akron Beacon Journal/Ohio.com’s audience coverage area, which includes Summit, Portage, Medina, Stark, Wayne and Cuyahoga counties.
Last year, the Millennium Fund awarded 31 grants totaling $42,800 to support arts, education and health programs for local youth. Recent grants have provided gifts for children in foster care, live theater performances for area students, food and clothing for at-risk youth, and more.
Requests for Millennium Fund for Children grants should be made online by Saturday, Sept. 1. A link to the application is available at www.akroncf.org/ApplyMillennium. Questions about the online application process should be directed to John Garofalo, vice president of community investment, at (330) 436-5624 or [email protected].
Businesses that wish to publicly show their commitment to helping local children can also become a corporate sponsor of the Millennium Fund. Sponsorships are fully tax deductible and include special recognition on the fund’s donation coupon and other materials circulated throughout the Akron Beacon Journal’s six-county distribution area.
“This is a great opportunity for child- and family-focused businesses to show their support for the children in our community, a cause many of their customers are passionate about,” said Millennium Fund Committee Chair Shaun Schweitzer.
To learn more about the benefits of becoming a sponsor, contact Renee Scherick, Akron Community Foundation’s major gifts officer, at (330) 436-5612 or [email protected]. Sponsorships must be received by Nov. 1 to be included in promotional materials.
