Member show includes 60 works, runs June 2 through July 1
— Residents may have to go back more than once to take in all of the perspectives they’ll find in the Ohio Collage Society’s 11th Annual Member Show at Summit Artspace on East Market, opening Friday, June 2.
The artists will meet with visitors at the Summit Artspace gallery for a free reception on June 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. Summit Artspace on East Market is located at 140 E. Market St., Akron.
The juried show includes 60 works representing a wide variety of collage and assemblage work in diverse styles. Collage and assemblage are artistic forms that incorporate the use of other materials and objects to create a new artwork. The show runs until July 1.
Arnie Tunstall, director of University Galleries at the Myers School of Art of The University of Akron, is the judge. He will be selecting five award winners from the entries. He is an adjunct instructor at the Myers School of Art since 1995 and is currently teaching in the Arts Administration program at the university. He also served in curatorial and collections posts at the Akron Art Museum.
The exhibiting artists will participate in a panel discussion about their work on Thursday, June 8, 7 p.m., in the gallery. Seating is limited. The event is free and open to the public. Click here to register.
The Ohio Collage Society which is located in Hudson is an affiliate of the National Collage Society, founded by Hudson resident and artist Gretchen Bierbaum. Gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays, noon to 7 p.m., and Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. The show is free and open to the public.
Open hours also include the Summit Artspace Artwalk on, Saturday, June 3, when the galleries will be open from noon to 9 p.m. The Artwalk, a continuation of the free popular downtown event, will feature art talks by resident studio artists, pop-up shops and music at Summit Artspace from 5 to 9 p.m. In addition, Summit Artspace on East Market will participate in the new downtown event, 3rd THURSDAY, June 15, 5 to 9 p.m.
