PechaKucha Akron Volume 3 — a fast-paced, creative speaking series — will take place Friday, May 6 at The Bit Factory, 526 S. Main St. in Akron.
The doors open at 7 p.m. and the event starts promptly at 8 p.m. Admission is free, but there is a $2 suggested donation at the door to help support PechaKucha International. Food will be provided, and there will be a cash bar.
According to PechaKucha Akron’s Facebook page, PechaKucha (the Japanese word for “the sound of conversation”) started in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network and show their work in public.
Since then, it has grown in popularity and expanded its content. Now PechaKucha includes speakers talking about a variety of topics relating to art, fashion, food, life, architecture, film, design, community, photography, law and science, among other topics. Currently, PechaKucha events take place in over 800 cities worldwide.
PechaKucha has a unique design that perfectly meets our modern, fast-paced lifestyle and keeps the audience engaged. Each speaker must fit their presentation within 20 slides, each lasting for 20 seconds, which adds up to 6:40 minutes precisely per presentation. Some conceptualize PechaKucha presentations as “mini-TED talks,” but with a party-like atmosphere. PechaKucha’s goal is to attract new talent, showcase existing talent and offer a platform to incite meaningful collaborations.
PechaKucha Akron strives to bring you Akron-born creative content that has the signature of being innovative, inspiring and community engaging.
PechaKucha Akron is sponsored by The Knight Foundation, The Bit Factory, Akron Accelerator, University of Akron School of Law, ArtsNow, CraftyMart and the Akron Symphony.
