On June 22, 2013 Lock 3 hosted a youth football camp presented by the Power of One, a local group dedicated to bringing the community closer together by mentoring young people. A free event themed “Each of Us can Make a Difference in the Community” was jam-packed with instructions by high school and college coaches of basic fundamentals as well as entertainment for both boys and girls ages 6-12 and their parents.
Power of One’s Youth Football Camp allowed children to experience position-specific drill instructions, speed and agility drills, team competitions and discussions of motivational topics and speeches by community leaders. The children also enjoyed a special appearance and show by local performer A-Minus, and music with DJ Leon Johnson.
The group Power of One is comprised of community organizations volunteering and working together to network, share resources, knowledge, and skills, as well as sustain one another as one well oiled machine. “We’re here to come together and collaborate, because it takes a village to raise our children,” said artist Ron Hamilton, and Power of One lives by this statement in continuing to bring the community closer as one.
