Repurposed historical movie theatre The Rialto and recording space Studio 1008 have teamed up to present “Radio Silence,” an exciting and progressive cultural showcase on Saturday, Nov. 14.
“Radio Silence” will exhibit work from some of the best creative minds in and around the Akron area, and will be a “rolling” event, beginning at Studio 1008 at 1008 Kenmore Blvd. from 5 to 10 p.m., and transitioning to the Rialto next door at 1000 Kenmore Blvd. from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Refreshments will be provided at Studio 1008, with drink specials and a full cash bar available at the Rialto.
Art will be on display at both spaces, and will highlight work from local artists Megan Shane, Bernadette Glorioso, Jessica Lofthus and Shawn Coss among others, as well as newcomers Razzigyrl Jewelery and Plan 10 Photodesign. Live music at the Rialto will feature Akron musicians Jeff “JCK” Klemm of Maid Myriad fame, progressive jazz metal band co_conspirator, rockabilly outfit The Midnight Railers, and more, contributing to the collaborative and art-seeped atmosphere that is sure to delight and inspire community members and visitors alike.
This unique and perhaps unlikely collaboration between neighboring businesses brings an exciting and diverse array of art, culture and popular local musical acts to Kenmore Boulevard. The showcase seeks to add a touch of class to an area where the loss of the former businesses at those locations were greatly lamented by the surrounding community and bring life to the area for the evening.
“Radio Silence” is also a follow-up to the successful “Farewell To Broadway” collaborative event held in a building set for demolition on South Broadway in Downtown Akron earlier this year and features many of the same artists.
Studio 1008 is a full-service recording studio that has been completely renovated since the Musician’s Bargain Basement closed its doors in 2008. Specializing in rock bands, the studio is also building a solid reputation for its work with acoustic acts and classical instruments.
The Rialto Theatre is a familiar name to many Akronites but, along with its remodel, brings a new flair to the neighborhood in the form of a live music venue, hosting monthly Akron Music Scene events and live music on weekends.
