Arc Recovery Services will host Recovery Fest, Friday, Aug. 11, from 5 to 10 p.m. The event will take place at 834 Grant St. and feature live music and food trucks to provide sober fun for recovering addicts.
Arc (Addiction Recovery in Christ) has been working with the Community of Christ Recovery Housing Ministry to provide a spiritual path to recovery. Last year’s concert, “Arise, Shine,” drew 200 attendees, and events like these are what Arc hopes will exist as a symbol of hope in the fight against addiction.
Former addict, Reba McCray, agrees with this statement. “The intensive outpatient program and the Women’s Recovery House were key to me because I learned how to live in the world, be accountable, do treatment, and get a job,” said McCray, who is now the director of the Women’s Recovery House and has repaired some of the damage her addiction has caused with her family and her children.
The recovery housing service provides counseling and housing for men and women for six to 18 months. The organization also emphasizes the use of the 12 steps and attendance at AA, NA, and CA meetings. It exists as an experience of community living where residents support one another emotionally and encourage responsibility in the path to recovery.
