Rubber City Theatre will move its theatre operations to 243 Furnace St. in downtown Akron, the home of WhiteSpace Creative. The new venue will be an intimate 80- to 90-seat theatre, with support spaces for the theatre’s operations.
“We finally are seeing our dream come true,” said Artistic Director Dane CT Leasure. “This new and long-term location will provide us continued stability and growth as an organization. We are thrilled to work with Keeven White on this new space and cannot wait to share it with our patrons.”
The new venue will enable Rubber City Theatre more opportunities for theatrical growth and expanded programming, all while minutes away from downtown Akron’s local restaurants and other amenities. The building, which was purchased in 2013 by WhiteSpace President & CEO Keeven White, was home to Akron Soap Company, Pioneer Cereal Company and Pockrandt Paint Company.
Rubber City Theatre, which is currently stationed on Romig Road, is targeting to be in the new space at 243 Furnace St. in time for its production of “Romeo and Juliet” this April. All Rubber City Theatre performances and programming thereafter will take place at the Furnace Street location.
