The Akron RubberDucks is seeking talented singers to perform the national anthem before the team’s 70 home games. Auditions will take place Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Canal Park stadium on South Main Street.
“The singing of the national anthem is one of baseball’s great traditions,” said promotions coordinator Sara Varela. “We’re looking for fans who are able to bring a good amount of energy to the ballpark and who sing from the heart.”
Singers will be selected by local music professionals and educators in addition to the RubberDucks staff.
This year’s auditions are open and do not require pre-registration. However, an audition form will be required during registration.
Doors will open at 9:45 a.m. and fans arriving by 11:50 a.m. will be given a chance to audition. Groups are welcome to tryout, and every member does not need to be present, but an accurate count must be given on the audition form.
All ages are welcome, and auditions will be cut off after 90 seconds. No tapes or recordings are required.
Judges will include Dr. Laurie Lashbrook and Dr. Frank Ward, both of whom are associate professors of Music and Voice at the University of Akron.
Candidates should enter through the main administrative office entrance located at 300 South Main Street and should wear appropriate clothing and be prepared to sing outside on the concourse over Canal Park’s public address system.
