The Board of Directors of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens recently announced the appointment of Sean M. Joyce as its new president and executive director of the estate. He previously served as the CFO & vice president of Operations for the past seven years.
“Sean has an impressive talent for envisioning the big picture while also grasping the details and their impacts on this very complex organization,” said Brian Cherkala, Board chair of Stan Hywet. “He has been a wonderful partner to Linda Conrad during her tenure, and promises to continue the momentum they began together with the team.”
Joyce’s responsibility and oversight for the financial management and business operations of the organization made him instrumental in transforming Stan Hywet into a financially stable nonprofit, according to a news release. In addition, Joyce serves as President of ARRC, Inc., Stan Hywet’s for-profit subsidiary.
A certified public accountant and executive leader in financial management and strategic development, Joyce has more than 20 years of experience in leadership roles that range from multibillion-dollar for-profits to local nonprofits.
“I am excited to carry our work forward with this amazing organization,” said Joyce, whose past experience includes chief financial officer for Goodwill Industries of Akron and Integrity Parking Systems, LLC. “I am committed to leading our team in a way that continues to make a positive impact on our community by honoring the Seiberling legacy, as well as the efforts put forth by our staff, board and volunteers.”
Joyce is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of CPAs. He also serves as vice chair of the University of Akron’s Finance Advisory Board and is a past member of Rotary.
His volunteer endeavors include his service as the Founding and current Board President of Dancing Classrooms Northeast Ohio, a nonprofit formed in 2008, and he chaired the Dancing Classrooms Global Board of Directors representing sites in over 30 major cities throughout the U.S. and 4 countries. He has also supported Crouse Elementary School and St. Barnabas Parish, in addition to coaching soccer, basketball and baseball.
Joyce received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Akron. He is a two-time Crain’s CFO of the Year Nominee (2014 & 2009) and in 2009, he was a recipient of the Greater Akron Chamber 30 for the Future Award. He is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Akron, and in 2016, he was named the Financial Management Association’s Outstanding Financial Executive by The University of Akron.
