Our Stories of Akron series continues in downtown Akron, as we ask random residents what they like or don’t like about Akron. Everyone we approached had positive things to say about the city in which some of them work and live.
“What I like about living here is the resurgence of downtown. It’s come back to life over the last few years. It has a little bit of everything for everyone, and everything’s in close proximity.”
Khristopher Conley
“It’s slow (when compared to other cities). It’s chill. You can have a good meal; you can go see great musicians play. There’s a lot of culture and a lot of art.”
Christopher Coles
“I grew up in Akron, I went to school here and work downtown. It becomes a little community where you feel like you know a lot of people. I feel safe walking around, at day or at night.”
Celia Hashlamoun
“I love the the fact that we have seasons in Ohio. We have diversity in our weather and diversity in our people, too. People don’t give the city enough credit. People from Cleveland don’t know anything about Akron.”
Michael Day
“The University of Akron brings in a lot of diversity. I like the nightlife, the restaurants. It’s not Cleveland or Columbus, but with a city with 230,000 people, there’s a lot to do. It’s a festive city.”
Da Juan Beaty
“I remember coming to Quaker Square as a kid, and visiting the candy store downstairs.”
