A scrap tire collection event will take place Saturday, April 29, at ReWorks’ Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Center, 1201 Graham Road in Stow, from 9 to 11 a.m. Summit County residents are invited to drop off unwanted passenger car and light truck sized tires for a cash fee of only $1 per tire. There is a limit of 10 tires per vehicle.
Recycling a tire not only diverts it from a landfill, but it gains new life as the basis of innovative, eco-friendly products. ReWorks contracts with Lightner Tires, a Summit County business based here since 1963, to provide scrap tire recycling services. Recycled tires may find their way into turf, asphalt rubber and synthetic sports fields’ surfaces.
The event is for Summit County residents only. No businesses. No household hazardous waste will be collected at this event.
If you are unable to attend this event, scrap tires will be accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Center during regular hours of operation, which are 2 to 7 p.m. The Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Center opens for the 2017 season Thursday, June 1, and is open every Thursday through Sept. 28. Alternatively, scrap tires are accepted at Lightner Tire in Akron. Call them directly at (330) 724-7436 for additional info.
